![]() In March 1738, Jenkins was ordered to testify before British Parliament. Reportedly, Fandiño cut off Captain Robert Jenkins’ left ear and accused him of smuggling. The British brig Rebecca was boarded by a Spanish privateer named Juan de León Fandiño, commander of a patrol boat named La Isabela. The war is named after an incident that occurred in 1731 off the coast of Florida. Britain and Spain went to war over access to markets in Spanish America with disputes mainly occurring in New Granada (modern-day Colombia), the Caribbean, Atlantic and Pacific Oceans, and seeped into Spanish Florida and British Georgia. The European imperial powers of Britain and Spain vied to achieve geopolitical, commercial, and cultural dominance within the Western Hemisphere, resulting in the War of Jenkins’ Ear from October 1739 to October 1748. Illustration of Fort Mose British/Spanish Colonial Rivalry It was staffed by a free Black militia and led by the free Black Captain, Francisco Menendez. ![]() ![]() Upon their arrival, freedom seekers were offered asylum, provided they swear allegiance to the Spanish crown, adopt the Catholic religion, and (for the men) entered a term of service in the Spanish military.įort Mose served as the northernmost defensive outpost for Spanish St. En route, freedom seekers were aided by Native allies. ![]() Learn more about the historical context here.Įstablished in 1738, Gracia Real de Santa Teresa de Mose (Fort Mose) is the site of the first legally sanctioned free Black community in what is now the United States and was home to approximately 100 free men, women, and children.įort Mose was the destination of the original Underground Railroad - a perilous 300-mile journey from enslavement in British colonies in the Carolinas and Georgia to sanctuary in Spanish St. The feet are ball joints with suspension blocks on each corner that allow it to absorb angular impacts and to balance more easily.Each year, the Fort Mose Historic Society hosts a reenactment of the Battle of Bloody Mose for visitors to step back in time and experience what life was like on this fateful day. I attached the HPB's to the joints of the legs to provide mobility in the most efficent way possible. I also used the fan blocks to increase walking speed but that doesnt matter much. I used a hinge-piston-brace system to replicate the function of human muscles so that the leg can walk and return to standing position. To further improve impact tolerance, mount the foot assembly to a suspension block instead of directly mounting it to a ballast or otherwise rigid block. This keeps the mech standing upright while allowing for slight terrain crossing capability, and ability to deal with rough landings. This makes it so that the ball joint can still move, but with heavy resistance and return-to-position functionality. The way it does this? The base of the foot is a ball joint, and on each corner of the ball joint, there is a small suspension block with its own ball joint connecting it to the calf. My custom foot design is also based off of the performance of a real foot: provide balance for the body. And really, thats all you need in besiege, lol. The foot, unlike the leg, doesnt really have any sort of image or hard scientific reasoning to back it up, just a basic thought and some blocks. The foot just keeps balance better, thus taking the strain off of the balloons, or in the case of the aforementioned Theta, the Knight. My foot "mechanism" isnt exactly "mechanised". In this leg's case, causes forward motion and causes slight backward motion: When pressing either or, the corresponding pistons will contract, like muscles and ligaments. I have it mapped so that the legs move with the left and right arrow keys. If you want to reduce weight, use only one per joint and increase the strength. I usually have two HPB's on each joint so they can better support the weight, and also so that if one breaks, you still get some movement. When not moving, they support the weight of the machine using their spring-like properties, and just stay still. As you can see, there is a hinge-piston-brace (HPB) system at each joint. The front of the piston is attached to the "bone" by a brace, so that when it contracts, it's pulling on the hinge, which is connecting it to a seperate part, and that causes the main "bone" to be lifted in whichever direction the HPB is. I tried as best I could to emulate how a human ligament-muscle system of movement works using a simple hinge-piston-brace system. The muscle is connected to the bone by 2 ligaments and when it needs to move the bone, it contracts.
